Summer is here and I’m sooo excited for it! But this season looks a little different as a mom. It comes with more responsibility now that you have a tiny human to protect. So what are the summer essentials for babies? Keep reading because I’m sharing all of my must haves and favorites!
This post is all about the best summer essentials for babies you can’t live without.
1. Sunscreen
This is a must if your baby is older than 6 months. There are so many different brands but we have been loving this Babyganics. It’s SPF 50 and is nice and thick.
Sunscreen isn’t recommended for babies under 6 months. Instead, you can keep them out of direct sunlight and also utilize hats plus a few other items mentioned below to keep them cool.
2. Hats
In addition to sunscreen, hats provide good coverage from the sun and they just look so cute. I suggest getting a bucket hat or a hat that covers the back of your baby’s neck for extra protection. This is our favorite and works so well in the pool!
3. Bathing Suit
No surprise that a bathing suit is next on my list. There are so many options but I personally love the Carter’s bathing suits for my son. They come with rashguards too to help protect baby’s belly and arms. I recommend having a few bathing suits.
4. Swim Diapers
There are two types of swim diapers: disposable and pull up. The disposable swim diapers are made so they don’t swell in water like regular diapers and the pull up swim diapers are reusable. They’re both good options, just depends on what your preference is.
5. Baby Pool and/or Pool Float
You don’t need a big pool to keep your little one cool. There are plenty of inflatable small baby pools or plastic pools that will fit on a deck or in the yard. These items go in and out of stock at places like Target, Walmart and Amazon so grab one quickly if you can find one!
If you do have an inground or above ground pool, I recommend getting a float for your baby. There are newborn floats like this that provide a lot of support and also floats for slightly older babies like this that allow them to splash and be more active in the pool.
6. Water shoes
If you have a little walker on your hands, water shoes will give your baby better grip and give you comfort. They’re even more helpful if you’re at the beach to help with hot sand and seashells! I bought my son this pair.
7. Bubbles
I think it’s safe to say that most kids LOVE bubbles. You can find bubbles just about anywhere but if you’re looking to pick up something extra fun for your baby, try a bubble machine!
8. Stroller fan
Just because it’s warmer out doesn’t mean you have to stop going for walks. I bought this fan when my son was a newborn and it’s been a lifesaver ever since! I love that the arms are flexible so I can wrap it wherever I need to on the stroller. Another plus is that it’s both battery powered and rechargeable.
9. Water table
If your baby or toddler loves water and is able to stand up, a water table makes playtime double the fun! This is another item that sells out like crazy so if you can find one then buy it ASAP. I bought one for my son’s first birthday and I’m so excited to set it up on our deck!
I hope this list of summer essentials for babies was helpful. Do you have any other questions?
